I took my leg fairings off to get some airbrush work done. I followed the procedure in the sevice manual and all went pretty smooth. There are a lot of pieces!
My question is: when I finally got to the point where I could remove the leg (side) fairings one 3/4" diameter white nylon spacer fell out from the left side and on the right side 1 spacer was on top of the bracket at the front well nut and one was beside it. Where do I position them on reassembly and are there supposed to be 2 on the left side? There is no mention of them in the service manual.

Wow...im glad I'm not the only one with those mystery spacers. I had two of these show up when i put chrome inner fairings on and had no clue where they came from. I put the two from mine in the glovebox and have been packing them around for a couple of months.

An automotive tech friend of mine thinks they are some kind of anti-squeak spacer. How did your fairings fit up without them? Any squeaks or rattles? They are pretty thick .120"(times 2). You would think something wouldn't fit quite right.

Everything went back together fine without them and I don't have any squeaks or rattles. I wasn't able to find them depicted anywhere in the service manual and couldn't locate any place that they seemed to fit.

I have had my 08 apart 3 or 4 times and have never seen any thing like them.
Put bike together and if there is a place that looks like you have to force the panel together maybe it goes there.
Good Luck

They are spacers to shim up front of painted plastic pieces that run up to speaker grills on each side of the radio. They go under front screw hole to bring them up flush to speaker grill. I have them on my 09.

That is where I placed them. It also helps to tighten up the gap where the grill meets the bottom of the headlight. My only issue is 1 fell out of the left side and there were 2 on the right. I put it together with just one on each sode and alllines up well.
