What is there to think about? While there is 3/4 of the page about the defects, a 1/4th of the page is devoted why you should buy Harley, all "compelling" reasons. Personally, I'm not one of the elite that can afford to maintain a Harley so I went cheap and bought a near no maintenance, funny looking Victory that rides so comfortable that it is even better than my easy chair. Peace of mind!

I rode with three HD riders yesterday, I listened to their stories about this problem and that problem and how much money they spend. Never said a word, just listened.

The twin cam chain set up has been a problem from the start. I don't know why they (HD) went to that. The EVO and/or Sportster never had a cam/ valve train problem. Might be time for a "new" engine Harley. I was at the HD factory in Milwaukee just last week. The guide said and I quote " We could make a more modern engine, that would be easy for the engineers, but the customers like the product as is, so we just keep making them"

First off Sportster DO NOT have cam chain adjusters. Yes early models had failed at 25 to 30 thousand. Now they can go 80 thousand. Any body who reads that dribbles and believes it should buy a bridge I have for sale.

There just as good a bike as any others

Interesting...

To me it reads like the guy is trying to justify the purchase of an HD, although apparently he had a bad experience with Victory.

I am certainly in no hurry to buy and HD. I test rode them before I bought my first Vic, and after test riding them, not sure why people find HDs desirable.

That was my point...... Neither the XL or Evo Big Twin line has cam chains......The gear drive works / worked just fine with no failures.

...the bottom line is, all Harleys are junk, Victorys are the best!! No, no, wait, Victory and Harley are the same, just different styles. No, no, I know, Indians are the best and I know because I read from an independant reviewer that said so. His granddaddy owned an Indian, so he may have been just a little bias.

I remember back when I was in high school working at a gas station next to the capitol beltway. The owner was a Shriner that had a decked out Electra Glide, beautiful bike. He would park it in the garage at the station sometime, and this day it was there. We would have the Pegans MC stop in every now and again to get gas. This day a couple of Pegans came in and got gas. Bo, who stood about 6'8" was standing at the door and looked out at the Pegans and said in a strong voice "Harleys suck!" Heads snapped and seeing the size of Bo one of them gruff back, "What do you ride?" Without saying a word, Bo reached down and lifted the garage door and revealed his gold colored, lighted electra glide. The three had a friendly little chat before the Pegans rolled out...

The guys on the Harley forum were saying that the EVO motors were great. Prob was Harley wasnt making any money on service .....

They say the gear drive was noisy whinny loud at times but reliable.

There is a great article on how the twin cam was developed. The problems they had and how they got around the issuses. One of the issues they had was the oil would reach very high temperatures. They got around the issue by reducing the oil flow to the head. By reducing the oil to the head area there was less heat transfered from the head to the rest of the motor by the oil........ Most flow lots of oil through the head to carry heat away and help cool the hot spots. Then the oil is passed through the oil cooler. BUT the 96ci Harley motor has no oil cooler.
