Posts: 7 Omaha, NE | I am looking at buying a used victory and found a 2008 Vision with 52K miles for $9500. I am very new to the victory scene and not sure if this kind of mileage is considered high and that I should probably look at another bike with less mileage. I did test drive teh bike and it ran great.
Side Note: Per Rylans suggestion from the Vic Shop. In an email to me, he suggested finding a higher mileage one and having him do his thing. Looking at Cams, VFC, Thundersticks, and Intake. Figure the right people to ask reside on this forum.
Thanks for input.

| Several of our riders on this forum have over 100,000 miles with no major mechanical issues. Never hurts to have a Mechanic look at it . |

Posts: 2027 Brighton, TN | I wouldnt think the mileage would be an issue. Your getting into the mileage where if the maintenance wasnt done per schedule it will start rearing its pricey head. There was a posting on here in the classifieds for a vision for 12,900 with only 9000 miles. Seems that one would be a better deal. I know of an2008 cherry still sitting on the showroom floor. I think it is under 17k |

Posts: 185 Nebraska | I just traded in a '08 with over 50 k on it. Mechanicaly the bike was sound. It was in need of maintenance. Belt, tires, wheel bearings, battery, fork oil change, steering head bearing maybe. That stuff adds up fast. Thats one reason I traded. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Yes, 52,000 is high, so I would only pay what would be a fair price for a high mileage bike. 9,200 may be okay. At 123,000 I'm riding on the original wheel bearing, absurd, but it is what it is. And no way would I sell or trade my '08 just because of maintenance needs.

Posts: 3204 Memphis | Maddog makes a great point about pending issues. Along with the possible issues he mentioned, throw in fork seal replacement. 55-60,000 miles is a predictable window where any or all of those things can come up. The bike rides great now, but if you have $11,000 in a cammed out/thunderstick bike and another $2,000 worth of issues pop up within the next year was it still a good deal? I'd factor these things into the deal and if the seller hasn't dealt with them, I'd make an offer accordingly. The motor/tranny is going to be fine. Those issues seem to pop up real early in the game if they appear at all.

Posts: 7 Omaha, NE | I am beginning to wonder it the bike I looked at Monday might have been Maddog's. It is at Werner Cycles in Omaha. I did find a new 2010 8 Ball for 14200, with 5 year warranty. Not sure if I can give up all the comforts but still well within my budget. |

Posts: 7 Omaha, NE | I did not see a black and grey with trunk. Now I need to go back today and look. I did ride the one without the trunk cover and also rode a 2008 cherry/grey with trunk. Is the Cherry one Airguys? The cherry one rode great and only needed new tires and a left passenger floorboard. |

700 miles to get it! At a negotiable 16,500 for a midnight cherry 2008 in Memphis, TN. Sitting on the showroom floor. I could call and find out what their bottom dollar is, but that might be close. Loaded for 2300 bucks more than the 8 ball. I know where I'd be going. No, I don't work for them, I did buy my bike from them at near MSRP in 2007. Songfan also bought his bike there and gives them thumbs up.
Oh yeah, pretty sure the 5 year warranty comes with it too. and a few other incentives, if I remember correctly..

| If you do buy it ask for owners manual and make sure you read it special the how to change and check oil.
Ask if there is any warranty for a Small fee you can transfer into your name.
Look close into saddle bags and see if there is any cracks in the plastic.
Make sure the rear tire is not cupped if so you'll spend $300 bucks right away so check |

Posts: 208 Edmonton Alberta, Canada | If everyone maitained their auto, like they maintain their motorcycles, you would be hard pressed to to see used autos with under 100,000 miles. Many people are so finicy about their motorcycles, ( almost competitive about how much maintenance they do on thier bikes! With only 50,000 miles and seeing a few with over 100,000 miles you would not have much to fear! Fork seals? Unless they are leaking don't fret it! Belt? Tires? Battery? Have them replace as part of the deal, maybe offer a few hundred more! Battery? I have 4 summers, and 3 winters, never a battery tender, charger, or even removed for that matter! Wheel bearings? Should be good for a couple of years! Steering head bearngs? It's not like a dirt bike that you are beating up and jumping, 4-5 years before looking at them. At that price you can buy it and ride it and trade/sell next summer and not loose your shirt!!! Good luck and happy riding no matter which route or bike you buy!!!
Just sayin!!! |

Posts: 482 Beer Collins, Colorado (there is no fort) | I traded in my much loved 2003 TCD when I got my '09 Vision, the TC had 72,000 miles on it and was emaculate-it was only at the dealers for a couple of days before they resold it and I actually got to talk to the new owner & tell him things the dealer didn't know about my old girl-the thing that sold him was my maintenance records that had every receipt and I logged every scheduled maintenance/date/mileage that I had done in a book that went with the bike-this helped my trade in value and made him very comfortable when others wouldn't even look a a bike with those miles. I'd much rather have a vehicle with a record of preventive maintenance performed than a low mileage one that's just been sitting around. Brian |

Posts: 1308 Sand Rock, AL United States | I don't replace wheel bearings, steering head bearings ( i have never replaced a steering head bearing in any bike I ever owned), fork seals, battery, belt until they go. Got 136,000 miles on the front wheel bearing of my 99 V92C. I think I'm only on my second battery on that bike. I did replace the rear wheel bearing somewhere 90K mile range. THere is a Vision rider on here with over 100,000 miles on the original belt. Probably saved himself $600 or so in scheduled uneccessary belt replacement. I keep the oil changed, tires, brake pads and don't fret the rest. Saved a ton of money over the years. If I had money to burn , mad technical skills and all the time in the world, I might do more of that "replace it before it needs it" stuff.....nah, I wouldn't |

| If you don't see a hole or tear or fraying in belt leave it a lone.
If your going to put bearings in what ever go to a bearing store for the same money you can get twice the quality. |

Posts: 7 Omaha, NE | I ended up getting the bike for $9000.00 plus cost on tires. All I can say is the purchase of this bike has been a wonderful experience. The dealership has been great, I would highly recommend them to anyone. This forum, how lucky was I to find the original owner and get a first hand report on the history of the bike. If everything is done on the bike I will be picking it up Monday or Tuesday and come Friday or Labor day it will be at the VicShop with Rylan putting on some Cams, VFC Fuel Controller, Lloyds intake, and a set of thundersticks (Love the sound and looks). From there it will be going to paint. I got a couple ideas on paint, but it will be something that suits me and will be done by myself. I will end up getting some additional items: utopia drivers back rest, witchdoctors passenger backrest (Wish it had a luggage rack option), dash bag from dragon, arlen ness flip dark tinted windshield, and some way I can mount my nexus 7.
