Visionary
Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Not an Edgar Allan Poe, but I had to pen this from this morning. A possum was laying in the road dead, or I assume because its hindquarters were smashed. But the eyes looked a live?as the reflection of my headlights shot back at me. I don't creep out on anything, but I thought of the rabbit in the Monty Python's Holy Grail movie and thought of this... Dead Possum
- Laying in the road with blood flow
- Or maybe not with eyes aglow
- A piercing look right in me
- Why won't you let me be
- I swerve to miss
- I can hear you hiss
- That haunting look
- A curse that shook
- Oh, dead possum in the road
- Why weren't you just a toad
- Your look won't let me be
- I feel you lurching for me
- It wasn't I that hit you
- But you'll make me pay that due
- The road I feel it closing in
- The cars coming at me to pin
- You're just a carcass I can see
- But your stare still rips in me
- Don't cast upon me no spell
- I didn't run over your tail
