The wife and I are on vacation. First stop was 1,000 Island's and a couple of nights in Clayton, NY. Very nice and perfect weather. Took a big boat Two Nation tour out of Alexandria Bay and found it very entertaining and educational. The next stop was Stowe VT and was almost all two lane. We got an early start. The GPS had me going through enough changes in routes and road construction to really begin to wear on me by the time I hit Vermont. I should of just stayed on 89 but the added 50 miles just seemed to be too much. I wish I had followed my gut. The problem with trying to figure out the GPS routing is many of the roads have names instead of route numbers and of couse the maps show route numbers.

The route through VT started off OK but progressed to master class challenging. Looking back on the route Garmin chose for me did not even appear on my map, not something this tired 59 year old flatlander riding an overloaded touring bike was happy about. Just when I though I had seen it all the road became a series of twists and turns that reminded me of a two lane, 8 ft wide, water slide of a road. I have never been on a road where the gear of choice was 1'st gear but the climbs were sooo steep and drops sooo sharp 2'nd gear did not cut it.

If I ever meet the Garmin writer that allowed this road to be included in a route I do not think you could hold me back. The Person at the hotel desk remarked I am not the first person that has similar remarks and they were on 4 wheels. My hands still hurt.

We are in Laconia, Weirs Beach and just chillin.

Ya, my GPS has sent me on some wild roads up norh, especially in Maine. Windey, rutted dirt roads are the worse.

I know deep down Walt you enjoyed your little adventure, but I do feel your frustration. I'm one who rarely ever uses a GPS. I don't own one except for what is in my phone. With google maps or other mapping software you can "drive" your route before you leave, avoiding anythings like what you went through. My "nightmare" ride was when I went to Detroit a year or so ago and I took US250 across West Virginia. Seven plus hours of the twisties, so much so I was ready to hit a straight line, but I was committed to it with no way of escape. My real frustration was getting behind slow moving vehicles. On that road I exercised everything to include the transmission, going through the gears up and down, first through sixth, and back down again, time and time again, for 7 hours. It still holds fond memories.
