I think one of the things that will bring more appeal to victory bikes is a deeper slightly, ever so slightly louder exhaust note.  I talking about stock, out the door, if someone would want a quieter exhaust, that would be an available option.  One reason I think that would help is many reviews usually point out the tinny sound the stock Freedom motor makes, and I agree.  After 5 years on my Vision I would like it to be a tone louder, and deeper, but I just don't want to make that move beyond stock.  I think that if Victory would do that from the showroom, that it would greatly inhance the ride appeal.

Varyder....Just curious as to why you are not in favor of the Stage1 exhaust system Victory installs as a dealer option...Not that expensive for most to have installed at time of delivery..I know there are many aftermarket options, some cheaper, some more costly, and many that require fuel controllers, etc. etc. that can get costly and difficult to manage at times...This is my second Vic with the dealer installed Stage 1 exhaust and I have not had any problems and the sound is not objectable at all..IMHO.....On the other hand a better sounding stock exhaust is not a bad idea and does have its merits.....

The advantage of running stock exhaust is being able to go fast without drawing attention.

No problem with it, opas. But it's an "upgrade" when it should be standard. That's my point, why should I buy something that should be standard. Many of the reviews I've read on Victorys say about the same thing about the "stock" sound; tinny.

I may be wrong but the stock "package" to include the exhaust is a situation where it is within certain controlling factors of the government. Note that the S1 L1 is considered to be for "off road" use only. Just sayin.....

I don't know, but there seems to be louder "stock" bikes being sold everyday. Those bikes are owned by Polaris. What am I missing, a little louder, a little deeper can't be all bad.

Exactly if you Read the owners booklet for the vision it lets you the stock exhaust meets the federal noise limits. also btw if anyone remembers victory was advertizing the newer visions (new trany) as having a improved louder exhaust.. but even that louder exhaust note wasnt enought to mask any engine noise. Bottom line they have to follow federal law..

also a side note, i have the S1L1 mufflers on my 11 vision and while they are pretty quiet at riding speed they are not for everyone... Example.. i live in a Home Owners Assoc, my 11 vision bone stock was about as quiet as a car.. when i put the s1l1 mufflers on and start my bike at 645 am my girlfriend says she can hear and even fell the low end(what she calls BASS) of the exhaust. So imagine if victory put these on stock , and then people complained they cant use the bike at certain times of the day etc etc etc....... you can always Upgrade your exhaust to be louder. but a louder exhaust will Not meet ALL riders requirements for what they need a motorcycle to be... example quiet..

i also heard euro noise requirements are even MORE strict....

I have the s1l2 pipes and they have a nice sound at idle but not too loud. I almost always leave early and my neighbors nor my other half has ever said a word. I have to agree with varyder,it seems to me a little more noise should be stock. My brother just bought a new HD Ultra and his stock pipes aren't bad at all.

I may be wrong, but doesn't our Hardball come stock with louder exhaust than the Vision?

if victory made the stock exhaust to where people were pretty happy with them what would that do for the possible sale of their Own performance mufflers?

I've been happy with my s1l2's. They only thing I would consider replacing them with would be Rineharts but unfortunately they don't make pipes for Victorys.

I agree, would be nice if the factory had a rumble exhaust on the showroom floor.

I think the stock exhaust is to quiet but I do have some hearing loss. So I installed the level 1 exhaust mufflers, the rumble sound it produced was GREAT! I was happy - my wife was NOT :-(  So it's her ride too, right?   I installed the stock mufflers back on the bike BUT I drilled three 3/8" holes in each muffler (she doesn't know this ..oh' man'). Guess what?  She's happy and I'm satisfied ;-)

I was told by my neighbor, who rides a HD, that his dealer was informed that they cannot sell after market pipes starting in 2013 due to some of Obama's EPA regulatory "bullshit"... Do not know this to be a fact, but nothing would surprise me with our current administration and their desires to have government control of our lives.....Perhaps this exhaust issue many become a "moot" point...Just Saying!!!

Don't know where you live
but its all B/S most if not all aftermarket pipes are stamped off road to beat the laws. As for the dealer he just want to shoot him self in the wallet.
The catalytic part is in the head pipe so it has nothing to do with the muffler.

If you looked around the Internet has nothing about the 2013 Harley's not even there web site. Roomer is water cooled heads

I guess if Victory could get rid of the tinny sound in the Freedom it would be ok with stock pipes.

Have you ever looked into our mufflers? We offer 2 different styles. Most guys go with the NO baffled version. They have a deep sound but IMO are a little more tinny that our baffled version. The baffled are a deeper sound and a touch quieter. Either one is way better than stage 1's.

Thanks Jon. I know there is a lot of great products out there, yours included. My whole point is, why doesn't Victory bring a sligthly, every so slightly throatier tone to the the Freedom motor at idle to mask some of the tinny sound. I know everyone is screaming at their monitors right now saying, "you dumb ---, because EPA won't let them and not everyone wants loud!!!!" I don't know what the answer is.

LOL, can you EVEN imagine! ??? that's funny.

Since we're chatting pipes, I'll chime in. I agree my bike has a odd sound, all stock, nothing intimidating for sure.
I have to admit though, louder is not for me. I love hearing the sound of a new Goldwing taking off w/ some heavy throttle, sweet to my ears.
I'm aging, sigh.

I think the real issue is the quality of the sound, not the quantity. As long as the bike meets the EPA/DOT requirements, then they are good to go. I agree the stock sound lacks the deep sound you would expect from such a large engine. I sold Japanese cruisers for 6 years, and can tell you many of them sounded better at idle than our Visions.

Come on Polaris, time to recruit someone from the "other" company again...
