Also, if you smoke, you need to declare and usually show the quantity of tobacco you have, and if it's deemed to be excessive it's confiscated as coffin nails are REALLY REALLY pricey in Canada and you would be considered as a smuggler.
Best plan, leave the pistole' at home, go get an enhanced drivers license or take your passport, mostly so that ICE will let you back into the States. |

| Six friends of mine just got back from a ride in western Canada. They left from Seattle but they're all from Texas. They enjoyed the scenic country but the border police gave them a hard time. They all have a CHL as many here do and although they left their handguns at the hotel they and their bikes were still searched. They said it will be their last trip to Canada. |

Really! You should be on the receiveing end of your border authority. Not a very pleasant group to say the least. That said it doesn't stop us from coming down & enjoying your country or your company.

Both sides will vehimently stand for their view and some dead down the middle. The real issues is rights and priviledges and the law. Who cares whether any does or does not carry and for what reason, as long as I can if I chose. In canada, that is already settled, has been forever. Until it changes, what is the point of the thread unless you've been living in the dark ages. It's kind of like bringing up the fact you roll with a car tire when nobody cares.

As far as the border we are subject to as many questions and regulations getting into the US as you are getting into Canada
If you can't get in to Canada with your history then we couldn't get in to the US with the same history. |

Yes on the US DHS.
I can assume you never hunted with a handgun? It is a real challenge. |

I won't be offended in the least if you don't carry.
If you do, please do so legally. I am highly offended by those that break the law with illegal carry. It makes those of us that observe the law look bad.

Posts: 208 Edmonton Alberta, Canada | When we used to have gun racks in the back window of our trucks, nobody cut me off, no one gave us the finger.........it gave a little bit of respect!! I still remember when you were able to go to a bar with a knive on your belt! Do I carry? No, Would I carry.....In certain circumstances, but I have not come accross one yet in nearly 50 years! But I don't live in a large City! Even the small town I grew up in, there has been some $hit happening that would make me wanna have the gun rack over the head board at night!!!! |

Wow that's retarded. YAH - I read an article that pointed out - "Any Hero that tried to shoot him - would be dead - because the bullets wouldn't even annoy the killer in his armour". The 'right to bear arms' was fine hundreds of years ago when your ancestors were forming a wonderful new place on Earth - to protect the new country from the EVIL British. BUT Somehow us Canadians have managed to survive without folks running around with guns strapped to their bodies. Me? Going on 70. Let me tell you all a story about AMERICAN border shit. I have called your border guards "Border NAZI's " - ALL MY LIFE. How about this: In 1999 I was a Canadian, living in Kissimmee Fla. - working as a 'needed resource - computer consultant', owned a home there and paid my taxes. My wife was suffering from a horrible PAINFUL - fatal - disease. To help a company I worked with thru the 'Year 2000' fears - my wife and I flew to B.C. to do some programming to get that company past the feared crisis. I flew back to Florida early to get back to my job - and my wife stayed a few weeks longer to be with my Daughter and her sister, and friends. When it was time for her to get back to me - my daughter took my wife to the Airport - in her wheelchair - to do the trip to her HOME. One of YOUR "Border Nazi's" at the Airport in Vancouver decided that she was somehow a threat to the USA - and refused to let her fly home. She had her Passport, ID with her home address and all the crap needed to prove she was a 'legal' - but NOT to that Chinese Immigrant Asshole Border Prick. She missed her flight - my daughter had gone home thinking she was OK once she was being tended by an AMERICAN employee of the airline. I had to get the Company Lawyer to fax a letter to the airport to prove everything was OK - and our letters/documents were indeed valid. My VERY sick wife had to spend a night in the airport with NO care in her wheelchair - before catching another flight many hours later. SO - don't PISS ON ME about trying to carry your pea-shooters into Canada. You deserve jail. Maybe that's why the U.S. has the highest number of imprisoned people of any country. Ya think? I prefer nice words - then ugly words - then lawyers. Ya might live longer. |

Don, You're wrong on two counts, they're are handguns that will penetrate body armor, albeit few and far between. More to the point, any weapon that 's fired at and hits body armor has to expend the projectiles energy. That's akin to getting hit with a baseball bat. In many cases it knocks people down and if three or four rounds hit, the subject will be incapacitated. |

| Mite well get in on this too. Been to Canada many times & will go back many times. Aug. 1st. to 7th (cooler up there), Many friends up there. We talk about the border on occation. Seems like the best stories come from U.S. people tring to get back to the U.S. they give you a hard time. Canadians tring to get back in Canada. Some for them a actually funny. They have a job to do. God bless um, I wouldn't want it. Nothing like being in a room with 5 border patrol around you questioning you. funny! |

Just funnin' my brother is married to a canadian and crosses the border several times a year. she got stuck once there right after they got married, but they don't seem to have any issues.

Posts: 725 Reno County, KS | What I am failing to understand is why we are arguing with people who pissed away any semblance of handgun rights through the appointment of various politicians... It obviously meant nothing to them when that was happening, so now why so butt-hurt???
I carry legally every day and if the time comes that I must defend the life of myself or an innocent, I will do so willingly and without cowardice in my heart. Many people lost that right ages ago, but no big loss right? I mean just let the bad guys who don't follow law doctrine to begin with monopolize handgun carrying. No biggie. Then you can cower behind your ridiculous laws when you ask yourself why you didn't do anything to help the victims. I'd rather die or go to prison than watch the lives of innocent friends, family and children get taken while I run away and call the cops to clean up the mess when they finally arrive. |

Posts: 457 Green Bay, WI United States | I do not carry unless I am going on a long trip. I live in Phillips, WI. Don,t even think the murder rate here is on record. When I travel I am carrying a loaded firearm of choice. The comment has already been made as to : Have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. You also need to consider the fact that if you are going to be a Clint Eastwood type "Cowboy" (no problem with Clint) and have not put in your due diligence with practice your risking you life and those around you. The training that Law Enforcement goes thru is extensive before they can carry. Practice makes somewhat perfect. I have shot NRA style Bulleye and IPSC style action pistol years ago and still need to practice more with my carry pieces.
