While listening to a fellow Vision owner grumble about poor gas mileage on his Vision, I couldn't help but wonder if the guy had ever paid attention to one of the Vision's greatest tools, the "real time" mileage display that is part of the Vision's trip computer.

What a great little tool. By monitoring these real time numbers one can quickly learn what gear/speed/throttle settings produce what results in mileage. After spending a little time with this device it is not that difficult to acquire driving habits that will constantly produce tank-to-tank mileage averages in the 45 to 55 mpg range. I don't think that's to shabby for a bike the size of the Vision.

45-55??!! Wish mine would do that. 45 = 270 miles a tank, 55 = 330!!! I've never been able to stretch my mileage close to that. My light always comes on between 200 and 220, that's in all conditions and speeds and gear combos. 330 miles a tank would be quite a trick

I get 175 to 200 miles per tank, but that's okay! I love my Vision and the power it makes!

330 miles would be quite a trick, but 270 isn't. Monitoring the instantaneous fuel mileage does provide some surprises and can help you get the best fuel economy of you're sweating getting to the next gas station. Often, the fuel economy is better in 5th gear than 6th if you're trying to stretch the tank to the next station (at a slower speed, of course). Every time my low fuel light comes on, usually around 200 miles, I always have 1 1/2 gallons left in the tank, which is good for another 60 miles at 40 MPG.

My mileage consistently runs from 46 to 52 mpg. Normally I'm not a hot rod guy, but if someone tries to challenge me, too bad for them. I love chewing up 1800 Gold Wings!

The instant MPG read out on my bike can be quite misleading. It bounces around so much it is often hard to get an accurate reading. I figured my average is right about 40mpg. I doubt anyone could get over 50mpg on a Vision, unless they are going downhill.

My average is right around 40 - 42 also. I have gotten 49 - 50 a few times when putting around in the Arkansas mountains and riding slow and easy. The best I ever got was last year coming down off Wolf Creek Pass and then running 85 -90 MPH all the way from Walsenburg, CO to La Junta, CO on highway 10 with a strong tailwind and downhill all the way. I got 52.4 MPG by actual hand calculation, and we covered the 70 miles in about 48 minutes. We met a grand total of three vehicles over the entire stretch on 10.

If I stay under 70mph I can get 45mpg easy. I'm not one thats going to coast down hills and what ever.
The bike is here for me to have fun.
Its to hard to guess at our mileage when you can't fill it up to the same spot every time. Use the calculator on your phone to find out what mileage your getting.
