Posts: 185 Nebraska | 3157 LED replacements cause the cruise control to be inoperative on a 2012 anyway. This may have been posted already. Anyone know of a fix. I'm thinking the led has a diode and the cruise senses off of the brake light circuit |

Posts: 1228 Rancho Cucamonga, CA | You need to run a 25 ohm resistor from the brake wire to ground. The Vision uses the same bulbs for running lights and brake lights but LEDs can only show one circuit complete at a time. The cruise control must have a complete circuit all the time or it turns off. The resistor solves that.
autoluminations.com has some with a heat sink built in for a good price. Some great LEDs as well. Just remember to buy red LEDs, not white. You will lose too much light when the white goes through the red lens. A red LED will not lose any.

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | This is the exact reason why i dont piss with LED replacement bulbs. No way im cutting wires just to make a LED bulb "work" properly . Thats all i need is to Void my extended warranty when a dealer sees cut and taped wires.. Maybe if i didnt have a warranty.. |

Posts: 446 East TN | That's the nice part about these bulbs...Yes that are polarity sensitive, however, they have the built in load equalizer and NO CIRCUIT I have either used them in or read about them being used in has not been effected...I might even try them myself, just to see...I have them in everything else... |

Posts: 1228 Rancho Cucamonga, CA | No need to cut anything, the resistor piggybacks onto the wires. If you are concerned about something defective on your bike and worried that the LEDs would void your warranty, you pull the resistor off when you pull the LEDs out.
Some LEDs are wired with the resistors built in, these are called "Canbus" LEDs. I could not see where the bulbs that Joe linked to are canbus LEDs but they may be if Joe has tried them.
The reason I guided maddog to the other type, is because they are much brighter. I am currently using the 10 watt LEDs and find they are slightly brighter than stock (not much) but they now have 12 and 14 watt versions. All the canbus bulbs I have found are NOT as bright as stock.
Stock bulbs put out 450 lumens when braking and 150 lumens as running lights. If you do go with LEDs, find out if they are brighter than that before you buy them. (The 10 watt LEDs are 600/150 lumen). |

Posts: 1228 Rancho Cucamonga, CA | Neither plarity or resistance are an issue for the cruise control. All it looks for is a complete circuit. The proble is that, as it name states, LEDs are diodes (Light Emmiting Diode) and only allow electricity to go one way. When the running lights are active, the circuit for the brake light is broken and visa versa. Adding the 25 ohm resistor is the same as adding a 10 watt incandescent bulb into the circiut that is not connected to the running lights and will complete the circuit. It actually doesn't even to be that much of a draw, the canbus LEDs just keep one LED off the low circuit.
Turn signal are what require load equalizers. They are basically resistors that match the same load of an incandescent bulb so the ECU will not think one bulb is just burnt out. |
