Posts: 323 Troy, NY | I'm due for an oil change I have 4 Mobil 1's left and 1 Amsoil. I'm pretty sure they are the same rating. I got the Amsoil from the dealer. Would it be okay to mix them for my oil change? |

Posts: 499 Chattanooga, TN | Do it! Do it! Do it! I can't wait to start a new poll pf those who mix their own oil! Seriously, if I'm not mistaken, oils should be safe to mix with other oil brands without detrimental effects. I remember hearing some time ago that it was federally mandated. I cannot verify this though.
From CITGO's website:
Myth: You can?t mix brands of motor oil.
Fact: Mixing brands is not the best practice because the additive systems in each may be different and when mixed may not function as efficiently as desired. However, no serious problems will occur if you must add a different brand of equivalent quality between oil changes. It is very important to maintain proper oil level. |
