Victory Riders;

What's the feeling out there about using the magnetic drain plugs? Seems to me with combined engine and transmission, might be a wise investment. Thoughts? Thanks!

I have one from Witchdoctors and seems to work well so far....Easy to get in and out when changing oil and I plan to stick with it as the products I have purchased from Jon's company are first class and excellent quality.....

I also have one from Witchdoctors. It was load to capacity on my first oil change after the transmission repair. I would highly recommend them.

Nope. I'm running one. Clean as a whistle.

I have had a magnetic drain plug installed for about the last 6-8 oil changes. Get a little bit of stuff stuck to it each time but not enoughh to worry me. Looks like normal engine/tranny wear to me. I keep thinking that it is better to have those little pieces stuck to the magnet than to have them floating aroung in the oil
If I think about it I will post a picture after my next oil change.

They certainly can't hurt, My 1999V92C came with one from the factory-all others I've had to fabricate & add-usually just a little mud on the magnet-I've got magnets stuck on my oil filter too, they might help trigger a green light & hold some crap that would probably get trapped in the filter but once again they can't hurt anything.

Here are a couple of pic from my last oil change. Not much to see really. As luck would have it, this is the least amount of the "black metallic powder" that I have ever seen on the drain plug since I have been using it. Perhaps that is a good thing though.

Magnets on your filter is a waste of time since oil filters discharge circulated oil into the outer portion of the filter cannister and it's scavenged back into the engine by drawing by siphon action, that oil through the media material, that's the whole purpose of the filter.
All engines 'make' metal, don't believe it? do a screen on a VW BEETLE you'll swear the engine is grinding itself to pieces. I'd be more concerned about one that didn't show some particles.
In aviation its a 'standard practice' to cut open a removed filter to see what sort of metal the engine might be making, this was a great deal more important back in the big multi cylinder piston days where an engine might only last 1500 hours to overhaul and the filter, the oil, you and everything you touched was grimy, gritty black because of all the carbon from ring blowby in those huge air pumps. Modern technology and better metals and materials are the reason why your car should easily go 250,000 miles @ 70 mph with no issues when your grandpas 6 cylinder Chevy was done at 35,000 miles @ 45 mph, same thing with the engine in your bike so stop laying awake nights anguishing over nothing, if you feel better with a magnetic drain plug, go for it but you needn't worry until or unless you find metal that has a part number on it. Newfie, If it were mine, I'd give the end of the plug a cursory glance, wipe it off, and reinstall it.
I know that earlier I said a magnetic plug is a good idea, and it is as cheap peace of mind.

Yup...that's pretty much what I do. I simply see this as one more way to "monitor" the health of the engine. Unless I see a major increase in the metal particles from previous oil changes, all is well.
