I just installed the Stage 2 pipes on my Vision and noticed the Honeycomb Catalytic Converter in the head pipe at the muffler joint. Is this standard?? I know from my past life working on cars that you can barely blow thru a converter. Anyone removed??

Thats where they put them now to discourage tampering. HD used to put them in the muffler which took all of 15 min. to remove.
Wonder what a straight pipe would sound like with just the cat. as a baffle? Would probably need a remap.

I'm not privy to the engineering details of the Vision engine and exhaust systems, but if it's anything like on a modern car, I wouldn't remove it. Today's automotive engines are designed with a certain amount of back-pressure from the cat expected. This back-pressure sends a carefully calibrated wave front back into the combustion chamber that aids in exhaust gas scavenging and air/fuel intake. In layman's terms, by removing the catalytic converter you could make it run bad.

My Vision runs just fine since removing the cats, sounds better too since installing my Cycle Dragon pipes on Friday.

I was told by someone close the the source that removing the cats only adds 0.7 hp... hardly worth the effort. If they ever started enforcing '08 emission testing (I hope not...), you would end up having to replace your head pipes... very expensive.

I left mine I when I installed my Honkers, and I feel the cats helped reduce the sound a little... making the exhaust note just about perfect.

Im with you guys. Unless your racing and there's money on the line, its not worth it. After all, its a touring bike, and thats where it shines!!!!!!!!

Cycle Dragon has some nice pipes that are tunable by adding or removing packing and they are $50 less than the Ness pipes. BTW, Cycle Dragon is one of our sponsors.

I looked at the Cycle Dragon web site.
They dont have much ifo about the pipes there.
Has anyone put these on yet, and if so how do they sound?
I dont want my Vision to be overly loud, but I deffinitely want more than what the stage one is.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I am wondering how loud these pipes are? I want the traditional V twin sound, but dont want to buy pipes that are not as loud as Im thinking.

I already have the stage one pipes and that's not even close.

Can you give me and idea how loud and deep they are?

 Thanks!!!

Funny. Cycle Dragon is one of our sponsors. You didn't see their banner ad at the top of the page? Just wait for it and click on it.

Mike, thanks for supplying the link for those that can't wait!

Cheers,
Jeff

To be perfectly honest, Jeff: No. In today's society we are constantly bombarded with advertising messages everywhere, particularly on the internet. I realize that the sponsor ads are important for your site's revenue, but anymore I for one tend to just filter out and ignore all advertising.
