Since I miss the GPS my GoldWing had I went to Best Buy tonight (after reading some threads here) and picked up a really nice Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT. The suction cup mount works fantastic. I put it right above the radio, of course power is in the side compartment. The iPod cable/Phone/GPS Charger is a tight fit but it's all there. Tied up the wires and tucked them down the side and the setup is perfect!

I was going to just use my iPhone but that would require a RAM ball, Cell Phone Mount, Extra cable and since the iPod cable has that big ol box on it it would be out in the open. After buying all that stuff it was almost the cost of a cheap GPS unit. The nice part is I can use this on both bikes whenever I want so it was winner, winner for me!

The bluetooth to the phone is nice so I can see incoming calls, may not be able to really talk much with all the wind noise but you know I'm gonna try it out lol.

Here is a quick picture of it suctioned down on the center piece.
Uploaded from the Photobucket iPhone App

I'll be riding up to see a friend of mine in St. Louis, about 1000 miles each way from here in Florida. Should be a great ride. Last Memorial day weekend I did 2300 miles in 3.5 days. I have a little longer this time so should be quite enjoyable. It will also give me a chance to see how the Vision does compared to the Wing on longer trips. I got the saddlebag liners all filled up and everything is just about packed and ready to go!

I triwed the suction ball on mine and it stuck good in the same spot until i started moving and almost lost an 600 dollar gps bouncing down the road. Give it a good try before you head out.

Looks good, but the suction cup will break it's seal on the dash when you least expect it. I ram mounted mine where yours is.

Wow that is a long ride! As for the suction cup that thing is seriously on there. I tried like hell to rip it off to no avail. The unit itself is really light, weighs about as much as my iPhone. But as a measure of security I bought the extended service plan so if it goes bouncing down the road, all I have to do is bring back pieces and they give me a new one. I may do something more permanent later on so we'll see how this trip goes with it.

I stuck the adhesive disk that came with the GPS on the dash and it has worked very well. When I tried the suction cup directly on the dash, it didn't work out.

This as you can see is on the trim above the radio and it works fantastic. 700 miles today and no issues with it at all. Bonus is it does work with gloves as well. It was invaluable the entire trip. Highly recommend. Oh and I could see it easily in full sunlight. I have another 300 miles to do later today but gonna catch a few winks before wondering back out.

On another note the temperature swings today were crazy. Glad I brought all my gear cause I needed it. Leaving Florida the bike temp showed 100 degrees. Pulling into my sisters house in TN bike temp said 59 degrees. Quite the swing go from boiling to freezing in a few hours.

The bike also performed flawlessly. I very much enjoyed all 700 miles today. Super comfy. I can move damn near anywhere and it was very easy to go from fill up to empty without stopping. That's a big feat for me since I couldn't do that with aching on the Wing. I cranked up the tunes and enjoyed the nice hum of the big twin rolling down the slab. She did about 40mpg running 75mph avg. trip says I avg 71mph over my entire trip and gps says I hit 87mph somewhere.

Tomorrow it's off to the hospital my sister had her baby girl yesterday! Wahoo I'm an uncle.

I have my garmin mounted the same as yours and have had it come off a few times but the power cord has always kept it from falling. Sandwich bags work good as weather proofing and the touch screen still works fine. Hope you enjoy the trip. nothing better than a long cruise on the VV.

Phantom, do you have the GPS tied into the sound system? If so, what cabling did you need?

I have done the same with an older Garmin 765 which also has an MP3 player and a slot for a memory card + blue tooth to the phone as well.  I have removed the sucker and just stuck the holder directly to the dash via double sided tape.  It has gone with me now for 13k miles with zero issues.  Since the 765 is an older unit I even carry a 2nd one in my saddlebag.  Since I do not carry any old school maps, I didn't want to be without my GPS.   Ebay = $85 delivered to my door.  Here is a picture of my setup.  And like you said, I can control it with my gloves on!!  I have also hard wired my GPS so all I have to do is feed the GPS out to the AUX in the Vision glove box.

How did you guys hardware power? This unit has no aux out ports (that I can see) so no way to tie it in, especially with my iPhone playing through the iPod interface. I was gonna wire the aux cable in as well so they would play together but I don't see a headphone jack anywhere on the unit.

Hey Phantom, you have to go to the Garmin garage and trade that auto icon for a bike icon, lol

Donetracey just get it you'll love it. Having it display speed limits saved my bacon a few times. There are lots of cool dashboards, trip app, and the digital speedo is really nice. I find myself using the gps speedo instead of the bike. Btw the speedo is 2mph fast on the Vic. It's got a cool trip planner feature as well.

Sign up online at Garmin and they have maps updates nd icons. I did the swap and have a black/silver motorcycle now.

I did it - I am going to try the suction mount (with the adhesive patch) - maybe tie a string around it until I am comfortable with it.

My '08 VV has the 'Power Outlet' in the glovebox - not a ciggie lighter outlet - so I need to adapt somehow for power ...

Did it come with adhesive and I missed it? After 1000 miles and a crazy windstorm the suction mount works great. Get it good and stuck on and just try and pull it off. But you never can be to safe. If I decide to keep it there I'll do something more permananent. Was considering a ram mount setup as well. Anyone got one of those to show?

Looks good, think I'll have t do the same thing as well pretty soon. Did you say the Garmin has bluetooth to go to your headphones or is it connected to the stereo?

It has Bluetooth. I'm gonna try a headset and see. It connects to my phone so you can use it like a speaker phone.

I'm not an advocate of a GPS distractor, but I also agree it is a bad idea to suction cup anything to a motorcycle, that is if you want to keep it.

You can purchase a circular 'stick-on' piece that gets along better with the suction cup than the brushed aluminum panel. Once on - I couldn't pull it off. So I suspect it will stay. Went for an afternoon ride - with a string tied to things for safety - nothing moved and removing the unit for safety/storage is a snap. I like it so far. Just have to get the cigarette lighter plug thing re-arranged for a constant power supply. Dealer says they can fix ...

Ahhhh that makes sense now. My panel is painted so the suction cup sticks to it like it would a windshield. Ive had my sun pass suctioned there for 5000 miles with no issues. good idea on the circular stick on

I had an old POS GPS mounted with the suction cup for a while on the dash as well. I had to use a VERY small amount of silicone grease on the suction cup. After that it never moved and was still easy to remove when need be. Now I put a disc on the dash and use a suction cup on it. Works great and it is higher so I can keep my eyes on the road better. I do not tie in the sound side or use blue tooth, just look at the screen.

Ive had my Garmin "suction cupped" to my bike for 50K miles. I used the little plastic "disc" that came with the Garmin......stuck that on the center console and then suctioned the Garmin to it.

The only time Ive had it come loose is during the fall when the temperature changes....but even if it pops loose the power cord will only let it "slide" a few inches away.....no worries.

The older 765/760 has a unique cradle that provides power to the unit, can be connected directly to the 12vdc, and allows the GPS to be removed easily.  I too enjoy seeing the posted speed limit on the GPS and having the MPH turn red when exceeding the speed limit.  I wish my cars built in GPS did that.

I found a program called Easygps that I'm going to try. It's free and seems to have some nice features. I'll give google maps a try too.
