Posts: 7 Endicott, NY 2011 Vision | I have a Tom Tom GPS mounted on my Vision but it is completely useless during the day. It's completely washed out and I have to stop and put it under my jacket in order to see the screen. It's a few years old and I'm wondering if there has been improvements made to them. The one that Victory offers is pretty pricey and I don't know if it functions any better than the one I own. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanx! |

When it rains, it gets covered with a Zip Lock sandwich bag.
You can get a good one with free lifetime map updates for under $200.
If you wear a white T-Shirt, the sun reflects off of it and makes the screen hard to see.
If I'm wearing my black motorcycle jacket GPS visibility is just fine. |

| The best motorcycle specific gps I have used has been what I've been using for 7 years now, a Garmin Zumo 550. I have no problem seeing the screen even when the sun is shining on it directly. I know the TomTom units are also supposed to have a good screen, have you tried increasing the daytime brightness setting? My Zumo is separate brightness setting for both daytime and nighttime, perhaps your TomTom has thee same? |

Viclvr, is that your first motorcycle GPS? I thought about getting a Zumo 665 to have satellite weather but the feedback at the time, mostly from Zumo 550 owners was not so good, so I held off. I own the 550 and it has become one of the very best motorcycle accessory purchases I have made. Mostly because I use the map software on the computer to find the nicest bike roads. Funny how many great roads were so close to home and they just didn't stand out on a conventional map. |

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | i used to own (4) motorcycle gps's... all garmin.. all broken in under 2 years.. not completely broken but at least one feature or function stopped working (after the warranty) so i got fedup with high priced mc units and just bought a $99 garmin car unit.. i use a sun visor and if it rains i use a upside down sandwich bag... and it WORKS! then if my $99 unit breaks i dont care as much as my past $500+ units.. hell it could get stolen and i wouldnt get that upset. plus if i am on the road and it broken i could just go to the nearest electronics store and get a new one.. |
