After getting caught in monster rain storm for 5 hours this past Monday, it's time to upgrade my footwear. I currently wear a leather over-the-ankle boot (Victory branded), and normally my feet don't get wet on the Vision. In a normal rain. But not this time. Never again will I put Taco Bell to-go bags over my feet to keep them dry! Thank God I had a dry pair of socks!

I have some Skidmore's beeswax that I am going to treat them with, but was thinking something a little more permanent.

A few weeks ago I talked to a GS rider that was wearing Aerostich Combat Boots. I really like that they are waterproof. He also claims that they are the most comfortable boot he has ever worn (after the break-in). I would love to hear from those that have ideas and / or waterproof boots.

http://www.aerostich.com/off-and-riding/footwear/combat-touring-boo...

Thanks!

I don't know about ordering boots by mail, isn't it sort of like getting false teeth by mail? They look great tho, work the Skidmores in like crazy. breakin and extra waterproofing can be done with bees wax and Gold Bond powder liberally spread around inside the boot, the warmth of your feet will move the wax to where it needs to go and the powder lets your feet slip around a bit as they stretchout. Putting new boots on with the wax and powder then getting the outside pretty wet and wearing them until they are dry allows them to stretch too.

Ok, here's my 2 cents. First is never but shoes over the internet UNLESS you already have a pear and know what size to wear. Otherwise it's a crapshoot as all shoe/boot makers "size" fits differently. Second, I find it interesting that the soles of these shoes (and they shoe 2 different soles, what's up with that?) say "SIDI". Sidi is a very well known motorcycle boot maker, both for racing and touring. THIRD, I'm cheap and I am not spending $300 for boots. I have some HD boots ($100 if you look around) that I like and I treat them with mink oil. Works most of the time. And I like the zippers on each side that makes them super easy to put on and take off. But they are heavy and the insole cannot be removed!

If I am going on a long trip and anticipate rain I will take my waterproof boot covers. And finally, I ride a motorcycle. Part of the joy is enduring the challenge of the elemants. I expect my hair to get mussed up and my shoes to sometimes get soaked!

When I decided I needed a waterproof boots for touring- I think it was the time I rode for several days in Wyoming rain and one lake I went through was higher than the tops of my trusty Chippewa engineer boots-I wanted something that could multitask for riding,hiking/hunting/fishing, even work. My options are limited to finding something in a size 15D and what I ended up with are the best boots I've ever had. Bellville 800ST boots, they're made in the USA, waterproof-with Gortex lining, all leather, and a basic sole pattern that gives traction but won't snag like lug soles on asphalt (they're flight deck approved for all branches of the military). I got the steel toe but you can get 'em plain too. I take good care of them and after 3 years they're still in good shape and have never let me down-Highly recommended,Brian

Not the best prices here but you can look at all the different styles then shop that style for a much better price

Thanks for the input on the gators. I will probably pick up a set since they are cheap and my local shop has them. This way, when I procrastinate for the next two months, I'll have something when I run into a big storm again.

George, from what I have read, SIDI makes the boots for Aerostich. As much as I love the look of the Aerostich boots, I am not fond of the laces. I'll look at the SIDI specific brands and see if I can find ones like the Aerostich without the laces. Similar to what you suggested, I am currently running the Victory Renegade Boot.
http://www.purepolaris.com/en-us/Victory/Pages/Detail.aspx?ItemID=2... I love these boots!

Brian, I like some of the tactical ones on the site you recommended. You are where I am at with my boots. Looking for a great, all-purpose, waterproof boot.

Thanks again, guys.

Scorebo, try going to Revzilla.com and checking out the boots. Several nice waterproof boots and the guy reviews almost every one.

My wife & I both wear Battalion Combat boots from Allegiance Footwear.
http://www.allegiancefootwear.com/

MADE IN USA!

We ordered them over the internet using their instructions on sizing and they fit PERFECTLY.

They also have a store in eastern TN.

They are the most comfortable boots we have ever worn.

Between the 2 of us we now own six pair of their boots.

They were rain tested last year (not by choice!) riding through a tropical storm in Mississippi. Our feet stayed dry.
PS. the soles provide the most wet-weather traction I've ever seen.

They are a small American company dedicated to customer satisfaction and personal service. I highly recommend them.

I wear 5.11 tactical boots. They are waterproof and while having laces, once tied they have a zipper on the side. Very comfortable from day on but give goo ankle support.

I wear the victory boots now. I wear the 5.11 at work everyday and wanted something different for riding. Love the victory boots and they seem to be holding up well. I bought them last September and still love em.

Tony Lama's cowboy boots with the rubber. Give them some weatherproofing and carry a second set for those long rides. Boots need to breathe and dry out too...

For Harness boots I have the Double H 2810 steel toe made in USA... and I just recently ordered the one you have above the Chippewa Harness boot 27868...

Another good website to buy these is at : http://www.onlinebootstore.com/great-boots/catalog/Chippewa.html

After trying on a number of different books that never seemed to fit my feet, I ended up getting a pair of HD Lynx boots. They are waterproof and fit my foot perfectly. I ride with them all the time and do find them a bit warm on very hot days, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make for safety. I have ridden with them a couple times in rain and they have been great. You can only see the HD logo if I pull my pant leg up, so I don't.

I like these. American made and they'll last a long, long time. Yes they say they aren't water proof, but a little silicone spray on the stitching and your feet will stay dry in a downpour.

Simple question, did you feet get wet cause the rain soaked through the boots or did it run down into your boots from your pant legs?
I spray mine with silicone then give them a coat of super shine spray and they last the summer most of the time. I don't tend to put rain gear on so if my feet get wet it's from my pants and not my boots. Rain pants with elastic edges work got for that.

I wear Timberland lace up boots and so far haven't had a problem with the shoe strings(I double tie them to keep the loops short) getting caught in anything. This is my number one reservation about this style. For torrential rain, I pack Neos overshoes.

I just got a new pair of 5.11 duty boots. They have the safety toe. I can barely fit it under the shifter for the ride in in the morning. Waterproog and comfy though

Michael, i had a similar poblem with my steel toe riding boots but then i noticed how easy it is to adjust the height of the shifter above the floorboard. 5 minutes with a couple of wrenches, a few turns on the adjustable linkage, and the problem is fixed.
