The Bentley concerned me this morning.  I hit the starter and it acted like it wanted to start but wouldn't stay running.  About the fifth attempt I keep the button in and let it crank.  While keeping the button in it would turn over than it would pause and everything went off, but I kept pushing.  It started cranking again and I kept the button in until it actually fired and was running on its own.  Not something I would normally do, but I was determined to get it to fire.  I didn't have any more problems with it the rest of the day. The temp was around 34 degrees this morning, but it has never given me problems even down to the teens.  The only thing I did yesterday was change the oil, to Victory 20w40, but I don't believe for a second that had anything to do with it.

I'll see if it does it again in the morning, lows will be around 29, so that will replicate the situation.

varyder,

I've had the same issue with mine when it was new; a couple of times now. The manual says to not exceed 10 seconds with each attempt to turn it over; until it fires. That should be more than enough to get her to catch and belch fire.

Take her for a good; hard ride and then give her some fresh gas. Put a little Seafoam in her as well; you got some miles on that lady and she'd appreciate a "stiff one" once in a while for gawd's sake man.....!

I ride 'er hard everyday to and from work. I do need a long, long ride though. I hope to ride to Tampa in April, but that is yet to be seen.

But to say I ride hard everyday is that I make a 31 mile trek to work in 30 minutes. Most is interstate, except about 4 miles in the 45mph zone. I did ride to Fort Bragg last month so that was a good chance to blow it out also. I could have confused it some this morning, as I hit the button normally for about a second because I'm so use to it firing immediately, I did that twice this morning. The third time I held the button until it stopped as described about, maybe 3 to 4 second, and then the 4th attempt it did the same thing. Then the fifth time....

If it does it to me again, I'll probably pull the plugs and maybe give it a shot of seafoam...

I have to ask did you prim the fuel pump first?
When i first get it out every spring I turn key on and let the pump fill then I turn key off them back on to make sure the pump is full of fuel. Now I hit the start button.
I believe that sitting over the winter the fuel rails can loos pressure.

Yes, ritual is, turn on key, wait for the fuel to pressurize, then hit the starter. Thanks for your input.

Do you have a Lloyd's Idle Air Valve installed? I was told they need to be opened up for cold weather or it makes your bike hard to start.

naw, nothing against anything of Lloydz, but this is the very first instance that I can recall in 5 winters that I had an issue in starting the bike.

keep riding it - and I feel safe, from what I have seen you post, this wont be a problem. Mine does crazy stuff from time to time, hell all of the bikes I have had some quirks from time to time. Now if it keeps doing it thats diffrent...

Sounds like your starting to experience the dirty or non functioning iaccoca's. What you describe is what mine used to do early on. Irritating to say the least. My fix was cleaning the iac.

...you scare me sometimes Brian... I don't know if I should pull something back and wipe, or ...oh never mind... a futile attempt to be funny.. I'll have to look into that if it gives me anymore trouble, but I'm thinking it may have been a simple case of diode dillusions..

Hah! I haven't heard that one in a long time. Did you used to work on AN/FTC-31's too?

Same thing happened to me on the same day and time. You just reinforced my guess that it was abnormally cold AND humid here in VA. that morning, and the kicker being very humid.

I'm thinking it was choking for air, since humid air holds much less Oxygen. Now combine that with the EFI mapping choking out the air for a cold start, and you end up with almost no air.

Could actually be something to that. Both our satellite TV and satellite internet have been acting weird lately and there was a piece on the local news about solar storms affecting such things.

I blame it on the fact that twice I didn't keep the button in long enough, and I may need to check my plugs.
