Posts: 446 East TN | Last year about this time, my battery died...So figuring it was 2 years old I just went ahead and replaced it with a new one...
Went out riding off and on this winter, lastest ride was just last week and we went for about 200 mile run...Went out this afternoon, was going for about a 3 or 4 hour ride, turned the key and the damn thing was DEAD!!!
Had to put it on the charger (20 amp battery charger) it took about 3 hours to get it to where the battery would start the Vision...So now I can at least ride to work...
Has anybody figured why the Visions drain the battery???? Any Parasitic causes found by anybody??? |

It has only run down twice.Once when I used the kill switch and parked all night and the other when I stopped and did the same thing. Both times I jumped it and it has always started.
Sounds as though you have something that is not "turning off" and is drawing the voltage slowly out of the btry. I think I would consult with the dealer.

I discovered that some parts of the wiring loom under the seat need to be routed in very specific places. In my case after installing my bead rider seat cover, I crushed the wires on the right hand side of the bike between one of the rubber seat bumpers and the aluminum frame casting.
It eventually wore through the loom and grounded out a couple of wires; it took me a couple of weeks to figure it out. If you have been taken your seat off for any reason; such as installing a back rest, modifying the brake lights, installing the MOABL modification etc. Then I would check carefully under the seat. |

Posts: 130 Houston, Tx | +1 on the trunk light. I must not of gotten it fully closed one morning after riding to work, came out and NOTTA! Quick jump and was good to go after that and have not had an issue since. After that, I flipped the switch so its always off.
Any heated gear switches that could still be running / drawing power??

| Sounds like you might have a charging problem if it's not the trunk light. Walmart (in battery area) sells gauge for $20 that you plug into your cigar lighter and it will tell youo how many volts your charging system puts out. Great for your cars too. You might have to buy an adapter to use the Hella style cigar lighter in your glove box. |

The bike has a votl meter on it. Do you think it may be inaccurate? |

Posts: 446 East TN | Trunk light MIGHT have been the problem...I don't think so, but that is the ONLY non-switched power device on my Vision, everythig else works off of the ignition key switch....
We'll see I rode to work this morning with my heated gear, the volt gauge indicated I was charging the battery when I came to a stop it would go down to 12.5 or .6 volts and when crusing on the interstate it was up over 14 volts...Time will tell...Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas!!

Posts: 74 Republic of Texas | Do you have something plugged into one of the power taps (lighters)? I noticed the LED on my phone charger was still glowing even with the key off. Thus, I unplug the charging cable, from the trunk power point when not in use.

Posts: 804 Perry Hall, MD | Just experienced a similar drain. Culprit was the aftermarket Stebel horn. Actually discovered it by hearing a very faint noise coming from it when the bike was parked in the garage. The relay apparently went bad and since it calls for a direct power connection the key not being on made no difference. |

Did you find your parasite drain? You can do a current draw test by disconnecting your negative battery cable, connect a voltmeter (+) probe to negative battery cable and(-) probe to the negative battery post. Should not exceed 5 mA. |

Posts: 63 Calgary, AB, | An if it wasn't clear in the above post, the multimeter needs to be set to measure amps or mA, rather than voltage. (Some devices also need the wires to be inserted into other holes on the multimeter device as well to meaure amps not volts.) |

I never took ot that far...I charged the battery up and rode the next couple of days (weather has been GREAT) battery has held a charge so I think it was what people were saying the trunk light was lit....I might not have closed the tour pack tightly...If it does happen again I'll break out my Fluke 87V and check fro draw... Thanks!!!
