Mine had gotten pretty bad lately but found that it was just few screws loose and everything quiet down after tightening them. In the '08 days that used to be a big complaint, so I'm curious, does the new bikes suffer from it also?

On and off problem I've had with my 09 for quite sometime. Its fairly quiet now. At times I could hear it over the stereo at full blast. Still love my VV though.

2011 Silver/Black with no issues so far on dash rattles...A little dissapointed at the way the outer fairing top piece fits above mirrors..Has about a 1/4" gap above mirror on left side and similiar on right..Dealer tried to align it twice and was not successful so I live with it...Only noticeable really upon close inspection and by me.....Otherwise I love the thing and plan to keep it.......

Got dash rattles just recently on my 3-2011 VV8 with 11,000 miles. ARGHHHHHH!! Have had a rattle in the rear for a long time but I don't really hear those much as they are in the rear. Suspect a couple of lose screws is the dash rattle culprit and plan to try and track them down tomorrow. Maybe I get lucky and find them, maybe not. But either way I love my ride.

Living with that one too. Not sure I noticed it before removing that panel a few times. Other than that, after 6K miles on my '11, nothing in the rattle department yet.

Chris, what screws are loose? (other than the ones in the rider's head LOL) Mine has a dash rattle that is beginning to really bug me.

ALSO: Don't want to "rub it in" but Laura and I went for a little 300 mile jaunt for lunch today. High was around 70 and completely clear, blue skies. Man, I love livin' in Florida and being able to ride year 'round !!!!!!

I got a short chore ride in today, then just got back from doing 250 miles in the cage...arrrgh. Well, I tightend the ones behind the bezel and then the 6mm under the cowl. I think I need to pull off the center console and check all the screws there because something started rattling there and stops when I put my hand on the console. I had somethings apart recently and I guess I didn't get them tight then, so here I am...

I had a serious dash rattle that would sound off on the slightest bump in the road. Upon investigation, I noticed that there was a 1" rubber grommet stuffed between two structural sections deep within the dash on the right side. The same structural sections on the left side did not have this grommet. I picked up a similar grommet at the hardware store and stuffed it between the left side sections. The rattle was significantly diminished.

Now I only hear a rattle on major bumps and now I think it comes from the loose play in the track of the windshield motor glide. Looks like the only way to get rid of this rattle remnant is to either replace the motor assembly ($$) or take up the extra glide space with some type of teflon spacer. Too cold to work on things right now.

Mine rattles also. But, it was hit and knocked over in a parking lot and has been dropped several times. Once hard by a co-worker.

caution do not over tighten those blots or screws on the plastic parts it will crack the hold down tabs when the plastic exspands then contracts it must beable to move that is why you get all the rattles from these bikes it fantastic plastic !!!

I don't want to belabor the obvious here.... but:

I have had a dash rattle on and off for two years. Nothing much.... just a little pinging rattle thing going on. I found out what it was last week and damn near gave myself a concussion when I slapped my forehead.

In order to keep my keys from scratching the dash panel, I put a quick disconnect on my vision key and keep the rest of my keys in a pocket. Sometimes the little fob of the joint would touch the aluminum and pick up the vibration from the dash. Rattle.

I picked it up and put it in the plastic. Gone. I hit a bump and it fell out. Rattle. Now I've removed my quick disconnect altogether and no more rattle.

Perhaps some of these rattles can be solved without turning a wrench?

(I hope nobody is insulted that I've just implied that they might be as stupid as me.)

Nope. They enjoy it.

In the past I used computer mouse pad foam. It worked great, but it did not stay put when I took things apart. I found some sheets of self-adhering black polyurathane foam. It doesn't take much. I cut a tiny little piece and stick it between the bike parts that are rattling. This is the same stuff the auto manufacturers use so it holds up to the weather. The sticky side is very sticky. It does not come off easily.

2011 VV, No dash rattle but did have a trunk rattle that was corrected by using some weatherstrip along the seal of the top and bottom parts of the trunk. Made for a tighter fit.
