Hey gang. If thisnhas been discussed somewhere else please just point me in the right direction. I am planning to buy the motor for my windshield on my 8 ball. In order to get good wind protection, do I need to buy the mid or large windshield also? If I buy the large, how tall will it be with the windshield all the way DOWN? If I keep the shorty, how tall will it be when it's all the way UP? You see where I am going. Please advise.

I put the 16in Cee Baileys on my 8 ball, all the way down it is about the same as when the stock blade was all the way up. When fully extended I am looking though the windshield. I usually ride with it up about 1 in, puts the windshield just below my line of vision. I am 5' 10, YMMV. If I was doing it again I would buy a 15 in.

I went with the ness flip shield, but have no Idea how it compairs to the 8 ball. It is a few inches shorter than stock. I have a new in the box never installed stock shield. They ship the bikes with the windshield in the box, since i had the dealer put the ness shield on they never even opened the box for the stock tour shield. let me know if you'd like that size and I'll cut you a deal

I'll tell you that I love the ness shield it has a sleek look and is dart tented so that it matches the black bike very well. in the full up postion it put the wind just above my helmet. I am 5' 10" and would recomend it for looks and funtion.

Get the motor and keep the blade. Then add a couple of inches using stiff cardboard ad tape it on. Drive around the neighborhood. Adjust the windshield all the way up and down. Adjust the cardboard until you find the right size shield for you. Then buy one from J Roc, get a Gustaffson Flip. I have a gustaffson flip 15 inch and like it, but wish I had gone an inch shorter. Everyone is different and needs a different shield.

Technically you should always be able to see over your shield, although some pople like to look thru them. And a flip shiels will have a distortion area where the shield flips. The Gustaffson as a distortion area about 2-3 inches below the top of the shield.

That jibes with my experience. I'm 5'11" and I replaced my 8ball's blade shield (which is 11.5" tall) with the short Victory shield (15" tall) and the windshield motor (which has a travel of about 4.5"). With the shield all the way up, I look through it. With it all the way down, my line of sight is about 2" above the shield and I get only a little wind.
