Posts: 825 , WI | Another useful tool to HELP document an IBA ride is a Spot-Tracker. The Spot-Tracker lets others see where you are in real time and it also has a 911, Help and OK button. The Spot-Tracker program also creates a map of your trip and shows your speed. I sent the maps to the IBA to help document the ride and it's just nice to have a map of your trip. With any alarm activation, it sends a txt to your phone. You can use your phone to arm or unarm your bike, or even just flash your lights to locate it.
A weblink can be sent to 911 dispatch so they can follow the bike if it is stolen and disable the ignition as well.

Posts: 1229 Rancho Cucamonga, CA | They have a lower priced setup as well. For $6.95/mo It does most of the same stuff, except the social linking (facebook) and will only give you the current location instead of a historical one. When I bought mine, it came with that service for the first year free. I think they still do.
They say with the next free update, it will have accident recognition, and will automatically send an email to a designated contact with your location if you crash. |

Posts: 66 Oklahoma City | Does the IBA allow you to use Spot or other services like it to solely track the ride? To me it seems rather silly in this day and age to track all receipts, get someone to sign the paper, etc, etc. That is why I will probably never do an Iron Butt, officially that is. |

Posts: 1229 Rancho Cucamonga, CA | It can also help if they question your route. When you submit your paperwork, they plot the shortest possible route between reciept pointsand credit you with that milage. If you come up short by a few miles because of this on a 1000+ mile ride, that can really hurt. The spot traker will show that you took a different route for more miles. |

Nozzle,
You use your rLink a lot???
As my alarm, it is always on. At any time I can check my phone and see where and what the status of my bike is.
I used the free service for the first year, so I didn't get into all of the mapping and routing features, with the big trips I have planned in spring and summer, I will be using those features more.
My family will feel better knowing they can see where I am at any time during the rides. My wife did freak a little when I showed her the historical speedometer, maybe I shouldn't have been testing the speed governor. |

Posts: 825 , WI | One of the reasons I picked the Spot Tracker is that it's satellite based. It will work when a cell phone won't.
There are still a lot of areas that don't have cell towers. Does the rLink use satellites?

Posts: 1229 Rancho Cucamonga, CA | The rLink is cell site based utilizing 4 cell bands giving better coverage than any cell phone. When you do go out of coverage, the map shows your last known location until you go back into a covered area. Satellite (spot tracker) wins in that category, however rLink works indoors in case your bike is hidden away in a garage. |
