Posts: 337 san antonio, tx | Did the Texas Honor Ride today (Houston to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio) Helped out with the fuel stop at Bucees in Luling and was on the final overpass with the flags.
I saw two other Visions out there today. One was white, the other either silver or white. One was riding two up, the other solo.
Any of you out there today? |

Posts: 337 san antonio, tx | The Texas Honor Ride is held each year on the Saturday after Veterans Day. The American Legion Riders post 593 (Converse) runs the fuel stop at Bucees in Luling. We fueled over 700 bikes in well under 30 minutes! Kind of impressive, actually! As soon as we get the last bike through, we mount up and pass the main group, pull off at an overpass just before the 1604. We dismount, grab flags, and line the overpass with the flags. 700+ bikes plus lots of cages in the LEO escorted procession is a pretty awesome sight to watch passing under you.
It sure was easy to spot the Visions! |

The hospital on Ft. Sam Brooke Army Medical Center or BAMC is now also known as San Antonio Military Medical Center - North "SAMMC-North" and the Lackland AFB hospital Wilford Hall Medical Center is called "SAMMC - South". The Military pronounces it "SamSEE"
It will take some time for me to call them anything but "BamSEE" and "Will-EE" or "Wilford Hall"

I'll keep you posted, we can always use an extra hand or two.
I didn't plan it, but for the last four years, I've had to travel for work and it's just happened that the timing and project allowed me the pleasure of taking my bike. This year I finished my business in Lafayette, hit the start point in Houston, and linked up with my group at Bucees. Did the refuel and flag missions with them and and we continued on to Fort Sam.
I am totally opposed (not that it matters) to all this renaming business that's going on around the country. Each post has a unique history and the name of the installation generally reflects that. Seems to me just another way to ignore, or re-do history for some reason or another.
I don't know that I'll ever stop calling it BAMC! |

| Sounds like a great ride!
This April I was lucky enough to ride in the Project 9/11 Escort from Richmond IN to Indianapolis escorting two beams from the twin towers. They estimate 10,000 - 12,000 bikes in the rain. We covered one lane of I-70 in a line more than 50 miles long. Every overpass had folks along with firefighters with their equipment waving flags, honking horns, etc. It was two hours between the lead bike (12 Indiana State Police Motor Troopers) and the last bike leaving Richmond. |
