Posts: 131 Edmond, OK 2012 Vision, 2012 Cross Country | I finally picked up my 2012 Vision today and on my '09 and '11 the trunk rattled as many of yours do. My '12 has 2 bumper in the center around the latch and make the trunk lid tighter so less rattling. The dealers may remove them because it does make the trunk harder to shut but lots tighter. So you might check with yoru dealer to see if they are removing them. |

Posts: 495 Carrollton, TX | Here is what I did to remove the rattle on my trunk. If you look along the rim of the bottom part of the trunk when open you will see a grove that goes all around the rim. There is a ridge on the top that seats in this grove when the lid closes. Buy a roll of 3/8 in. x 5/16 in. x10 ft. black high-density rubber foam weather stripping ($2.57 at Home Depot). This weather stripping will fit perfectly in this channel - grove and will keep the ridge from the top hitting the bottom of this grove on bumps which causes the rattling. This worked great.

There are little water drain holes in that groove. Have you checked to see if there are any ill effects in heavy rain or massive garden hose soaking?

Posts: 71 Willmar, MN | These bumpers are for sale from Victory. I think I paid about $6 for them and they completely stopped the rattles on my 08. And I had tried everything prior to that...tearing it apart, felt strips, foam, shortening the brackets, etc, etc. The bumpers work and are cheap. |

Posts: 57 Kansas City, MO | I just bought the Victory luggage rack and installed it last night. It came with a set of the bumpers, which I installed per the instructions. They do make it latch a bit tighter, but nothing I can't get used to.
The instructions also had me install strips of felt pad (but I used closed-cell self adhesive foam, since I had it on hand, and the felt wasn't included) at 8 strategic locations; 4 on each side underneath the plastic panels that are on either side of the top (the panels that hold the red running lights).
When I get home tonight, I'll try to scan in the photo from Vic's instruction sheet that shows these locations, if anyone is interested.
Mine wasn't rattling to begin with (yet), but I'm guessing Victory must have received enough complaints, especially after the added wieght of the luggage rack, to make these modifications in the instructions.

Posts: 57 Kansas City, MO | According to another post I found, part number is 5413754 for the rubber bumpers. If you put them on yourself, you will need a 7/16" drill bit. Pretty easy install.

Recently installed a couple. Worked for me! Got to press down a little on the trunk lid now to make sure it latches.

I am familiar with the bumpers also as some of my friends have installed them when they added the trunk rack but after awhile they still got a little ratteling and added the weather striping as well. |

Posts: 763 Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | The stock weather stripping on the lid does not make contact with the trunk. Someone in a pevious post said dust and water was getting in. They also said they installed the bumpers, but that did not help to seal the lid to the trunk. Shortening the latches eliminates the rattle AND seals the trunk.

Posts: 785 Mt. Vernon, WASH. | Sounds like another issue of the factory knows this is an issue but won't change the assemblies, by, oh say making a new correct drilling fixture for the trink lid latches (potential cost for new tooling, 95 cents) . 'BUT, on the bright side since we know this is an issue and easily correctable, let's figure out a way to charge our cutomers to correct a self created issue and P.R. and good will be damned, after all we're only charging $24K for this bike and there's $6.00 we can get for a 37 cent item.' Stop being such cheap Charlies on little items, one satisfied customeer will generate three potential customers, one dissatisfied customer passing the bad taste left along the 'jungle telegraph' will cost you hundreds of 'I'll look elsewhere' non customers.
And companies wonder why they went out of business!!?!! |

Posts: 160 Camas Washington | My 2011 has a small rattle on rough roads. However this weekend I did add the weather stripping and took it out for a run on the usual road that causes the ratttle. Problem solved which surprised me. The lid does shut a little tighter. |

| dr_reloader...Don't have any instructions handy, but the procedure is to drill one 5/16" hole on each side of the trunk bottom latch..Then with a small screwdriver or tool twist the bottom tabs on the bumpers into the drilled holes...Seems to work for some...I did not want to drill the holes after I got the parts from the dealer so I took another rider's advise..Bought two round 1/2 moon shape soft rubber door knob stoppers at Home Depot. They have a sticky tape back and go right on..I put one on each side of the bottom truck latch area and no more rattles...Cost me about $3 and work great...BTW they are white and somewhat soft....Do not get the harder ones as you will not be able to close the trunk without a jackhammer....Good Luck |

| Just a hint for anyone drilling for the rubber bumpers... Use a stepped drill
It will give you the precise hole size needed without ripping-up your new plastic trunk like a standard twist drill bit will.
BTW, I had to shave off some of the bumpers in order to get the trunk to close, otherwise I was standing at the back of the bike slamming the lid down trying to get it to latch (which it only pretended to do) save yourself the embarrassment and trim them. |
