Used to carry a spare trunk key in my wallet when I had a GM sedan and a spare ignition key on a ring in the cars trunk along with a spare front door key, if I locked my keys in the car, the trunk key spare let me in the car, and if I lost or dropped my keys I could drive the car home and get into the house-you gotta learn to think ahead |

Posts: 763 Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | I carry a spare on all vehicles. I hot glue a rare earth magnet to the key. The hiding places then become endless on most vehicles. Since the Vision is mostly aluminum and plastic I had to look a little harder to find places to stick the magnet, but there are still plenty of them.
Since Visions are so few, I'm not giving up my hiding place on a public forum. However, to demonstrate the power of a quality rare earth magnet, I stick a spare car key to the rear of the oil pan. It hasn't moved in 6 years.
Good luck finding your ideal hiding spot. |

Ziptie thru key to frame.....wrap in electrical tape. You cant even tell its there.

Posts: 880 Orlando, FL | I got one of these from my local locksmith
http://www.amazon.com/Pouch-Hider-Large-Size-91401/dp/B000KFSZ0C/re...
(as well as a dup key using the Kawasaki KW-14 blank....total cost for the key $6.50 including the cutting!!). The Key holder is a nice flexible material and uses velcro to stay in place. The pouch is also thin so you can place it almost anywhere. I placed it under the panel below the windshield. The panel is easy to remove if you know how and no one will find that key but you guys! LOL

it.

| The poor design of our ignition switch key you only have a single key so when you get off the bike witch pocket do you put it in or did you miss your pocket and drop it on the ground. Did some one pick it up and is looking for a lost biker wondering around looking for there key.
I wish vic would of used a ignition like the old chevys were you only need a key to lock it. I'm not regimented enough to put my key in the same place twice so hiding a key on the bike is a good deal. If you only need it once its better then the hassle that will come if you loose yours. |

Yeah....how much it would suck to be 5 or 6 days of solid riding away from home and realize you lost your key somehow.
If your using the Vision as intended you could be along way from home and loose your key. Id rather just whip out my pocket knife and cut the spare off the bike then throw the stops to a major vacation.
Could a dealership cut you a spare based on VIN? Even so, the dealership network isnt the best and could mean your still going to have to rent a car, trailer your bike.....who knows.
Boyscout say.....carry spare key. |

Posts: 1229 Rancho Cucamonga, CA | I've got a motorcycle alarm on mine that disables the bike, so a key is redundant and will only serve to strand me if I loose it. I keep a spare in the cheese wedge and if I loose my alarm fob, there is a code I can enter to turn it off. I won't give you that though.
I'd leave the key in it all the time, but that may be too tempting. I want to design a key that looks like part of the dash itself. So you would not know it's actually in, maybe one that looks like the top of the key lock, so it would just look like the lock sticks up a little higher than normal.

Posts: 66 Delray Beach, FL United States | I think I've seen "frame tubes" that mount to the bike then put key in and screw cap on, also I think there are license plate frames that you can put your registration papers and maybe a key in but you might need a key for those so that doesn't really help. My old bike I had set up seat pins that replaced the screws that held the seat in place, I had a spare duct taped under the seat. Luckily the only time I needed it was when I traded the bike in for my Vision, gave it to the dealer. Good luck in your search for the perfect hiding spot ! |

| paint the silver part of the key black and you can use a piece of scotch tape to put the key in a lot of places. It will be nearly impossible to see and most thieves will not take the time give a second look when looking for valuables. I.E put the key inside your lower case and tape it to the upper portion of it. Can not be seen unless you are looking for it. You can do the same thing with a piece of black weather stripping and double sided tape. Place the key inside the hollow part of the weather stripping and use the double sided tape to place the weather stripping some place obvious like inside your trunk or down by the battery. Just some food for thought.

Posts: 231 Desert Hot Springs (Palm Springs area), CA | I simply put one under my front windshield cowling. Virtually NO ONE knows how to pop it off AND if they do, they still have to find it! <grin> I was riding with a buddy on his BMW and when we parked he said: "oh sh*t." I said what happened, "I just locked my key in my saddle bag. Needless to say he had AAA but it took them 1 1/2 hours to get to him. Spare keys are a must in my book. |

Posts: 466 Grand Cane, LA | There is a place you could stick one of those magnetic holders on the inside of the rear cylinder head brackets. If you have the chrome cover piece, you would not see the key holder in there. It's one of the few pieces that is actually steel on these bikes. |

Posts: 219 Pittsburgh, PA | I have never carried a spare key but it is not a bad idea. Last year a buddy at work had his key vibrate out of his 71 harley fx super glide while going 85 MPH somewhere in Alabama. I realize that vision keys can not just fall out due to location and gravity but my hammer has the ignition on the side. My buddy spent four hours looking for that key along with the 7 buddies he was with. He ended up getting a farmer to give him some tools and a piece of wire. He bypassed the ignition and made it start by holding hot wires together. He ended up buying a used ignition with keys from a bike parts place later in the trip near the Texas border. They spent a day making the repairs. |
