| Do you guys that have the cb installed get out very far? I have on installed and I've checked the standing wave and it shows less than 1 on the meter. I've changed the antenna and couldn't get it out of the red zone, reinstalled factory one ,again I checked it and it was less than 1. Called the dealer and he told to take it to a cb shop for them to check out. So if anyone has any thoughts ,I'd be happy to listen and try them. Oh when I have talked on it it was about 1/4 mile line of sight. Haven't tried my ham radio as yet but I think it would do 10 times as much distance. The only thing I would like the dealer to do is a reflash both radios even thou there are the same sw verision. Hope you can help me out! | |

Posts: 1632 Jasper, MO | Mine's an '08. I did have trouble with my original radio. It was finally replaced with an '09 version under warranty. This one works great. I ride with other touring bikes, mostly Goldwings, and we can almost always communicate at least two miles apart under most conditions. Under ideal conditions, I have talked to my buddy as far as seven miles apart, but that was in a rural area away from power lines and the channel was very quiet that day. In high interference areas, like in a city, we can still usually talk at least a mile, more if we have to and can stand to listen to all the noise.
The 1/4 mile range isn't normal.
Have you checked the forward power yet? You should be seeing at least 3, maybe 4 watts.
The antenna is an NGP, no ground plane type. The mount has to be grounded to the bike frame. There is supposed to be a ground strap from the antenna base to the trunk mount. It's a flat webbed strap that should be captive under one of the mounting bolts.
What headsets are you using? I started with the Victory headsets and ended up with J&Ms. The Victory headsets I have do not modulate very well. The J&Ms are much better. Almost too good. I had to put wind deflector sleeves over the windsocks to prevent picking up external noises.

| Thanks for the reply. I'll try to see what the forward power is,however I don't think it is close to 3 or 4 watts out. I am not sure if I'll be able to have the dealer do anything but I'll sure try.
Oh almost forgot to tell ya I've got the Victory headset, but am looking into a bluetooth set up if all will work together,cb/am/fm/mp3/wx just hate to scrap the headset after paying 1000.00 for the commo package!
