Posts: 25 Natick, MA | Hi everyone, I am new here and was not able to find a clean answer to this question elsewhere by searching so figured I would ask....
I have an older iPod Classic 80gb. I just became the proud papa of a 2011 Vision Blk/Slv with the Victory iPod cable. The cable seems to work fine when I plug my iPhone4 into it, but when I plug in my iPod the display on the bike shows the song information, but never starts to play. I have tried fiddling with the menus, playlists, etc and rebooting and/or reconnecting the iPod, but nothing seems to change it. I have also tried plugging my iPod into other devices and it works fine.
Are there some sort of limitations to which model iPod will work with the Victory cable?
BTW, hello to anyone who may have purchased a Vision from MOM's South this summer as it may have been from me!! |

Also, I've heard that some people have had similar problems that were solved with a burst of compressed air in to the plug and socket. There might be a bit of pocket lint in there. |

Or better yet, can the ipod and just use your iphone.

Where do you keep the iPod classic when riding?

Posts: 25 Natick, MA | Ha, I certainly agree with moving into the new millenium, but having just bought the Vision I do not have the extra cash to also buy a new iPod. Guess I will just use my iPhone in the bike and save my iPhone for my car.... BTW, I used the iPod in the XCT I used as a demo bike all summer, so not sure why the Vision would be any different. The drive is not effected by the shock and vibration, I used it while running for years with no problems and have used it many cars, most of which vibrated more and had much stiffer suspension than my vision. |

Putting a iPod Classic with its magnetic Hard Drive in the glove box right above the spark plug wires (and the magnetic fields they create) is the main reason that the Vision locks up and/or kills Classic iPod's. This is the theory that I have about the troubled operation they have on the Vision. The vibration of the V-twin is also an issue and causes "Head Crashes" of the the read/write heads removing media from the hard drive.
Do not buy a new one. Do what I and a few others have....go to a pawn shop and buy an older iPod Nano to leave in the Vision. You can get them as cheap as $30 but $40 to $50 is more on par with prices in my area. If the first pawn shop wont come down on the price....go to the next until you find a good deal. This price should include a cable and a charger!
Take your own head phones to test them with.....who knows where the headphones at the Pawn Shop have been!
I have been using the same two Gen 3 Nano's for three years.

Not true at all. I have the same set up and it works, I had to get a 30 pin charging adapter to make it charge, once I did that it works without a flaw. |

Posts: 3006 San Antonio, TX | I use the charging adapter on a Gen 3 iPod on my 2008 Vision even though the iPod Nano will charge just fine without the adapter.
The adapter has a voltage regulator in it so the iPod does not depend on the voltage regulation from the Vision.

Is your iPod Classic in the trunk? Or is it in the front glove box?
That might prove my theory about the spark plug wires messing up the iPod and not the engine/road vibration. |

Posts: 44 Edmonton, AB Canada | One thing to keep in mind when using an iPhone, is that you only get about 400 charges on the battery and then you need to have the battery replaced or the phone replaced. Every time you plug it in the phone sees this as a charge cycle even if you only have it plugged in for a short while. My old iPod touch only holds a charge for about 30 minutes, but in the bike it works just fine.
Do what others have suggested above, get a used iPod for cheap and leave it in the bike and don't worry about it.
On another note, my newer iPod touch with bluetooth works great with my Sena bluetooth headset and the controls on the bike let you control the playlists and tracks. The volume is controlled by the headset.
I know, I have way to many iPods for one person. 5 and counting. |

Why not put a peace of aluminum foil on the bottom of the glove box and then no spark plug interference possible

I do not think that would completely block the magnetic fields from the wires below.
The best thing to do, as suggested above, is to buy a cheap iPod Nano for the Vision.

Okay, now to stay on topic, my iPod Touche crashed and was unusable on the Vision for the past two years. I finally broke down and got a 3G nano from a pawn shop for $39.95, great deal and I'm bakin' the tunes while tooling again...
